Youth Advisory Council (YAC)

 

The YAC is a student led council that focuses on teen health care prevention and awareness issues. They advocate for a positive school environment.

The council meets on Wednesday’s during lunch, and meets the school requirement of participation in an extra-curricular activity.

During the 2016-2017 school year the YAC chose a theme of RESPECT and promoted their health initiatives, as follows:

  • October-RESPECT OTHERS promoting The Red Ribbon anti-bullying campaign
  • November-RESPECT YOUR BODY promoting the National Great American Smoke Out Campaign
  • December-RESPECT LIFE promoting the P.S. I Love You Campaign-candy canes with messages were placed on lockers
  • January-RESPECT YOUR HEALTH as part of an Anti-Drug Campaign- Daily quizzes and prizes drawn during lunch
  • February-RESPECT LOVE -sold Orange Crush for your “crush” in honor of National Dating Violence Awareness Month
  • March-RESPECT YOUR FORK-offered healthy snacks during lunch for National Nutrition Month
  • April-RESPECT YOUR CUP as part of the National Alcohol Awareness Month
  • May-RESPECT YOUR KEYS as a part of Project Graduation, a drinking and driving prevention campaign
