Eligibility:
The scholarship is intended for a senior
being graduated from the Ishpeming High
School who will be attending a university
(or four-year college) to pursue a degree
in English or Speech Writing (Speech
Communication, Theater, Mass
Communication, Broadcasting, Public
Relations or Journalism)
The
student must have a minimum cumulative GPA
of 3.0 at the time of the award.
The
primary criterion to be used in arriving
at the successful applicant shall be
potential to further the field of English
through teaching or promise to
contribute to the communications industry
through professional application of
the student’s skills or the teaching
of communications (as defined above). |
Beverly
Perry Ladin Merit Scholarship

Amount:
The scholarship amount shall be $2,000 per
year for a period of no more than four
consecutive years. The yearly scholarship
amount shall be paid at the end of each
successfully completed academic semester
or term. (Offered next in 2011 or when
present recipient no longer qualifies.)
Eligibility:
The recipient must be a female residing
within the boundaries of the Ishpeming
School District, who shall graduate in the
top academic 1/3 of her high school
graduating class. In determining the
student who shall be awarded the
scholarship, the scholarship committee
shall use as criteria grades, difficulty
of course study, the recommendation of the
high school and citizenship. (This
scholarship is offered every four years,
unless the present recipient is
disqualified.) The recipient’s financial
need must be demonstrated.
When enrolled in a post-high school
educational institution, the recipient
must maintain a minimum grade point
average of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) and a
full academic course load to continue to
receive the scholarship amount. Should the
recipient fail to maintain the minimum
grade point average or full academic
course load, the scholarship shall
terminate. The recipient must provide the
high school principal’s office with an
official copy of the recipient’s
transcript of grades at the conclusion of
each semester or term.
Should the recipient be unable or
unwilling to enter the freshman or initial
semester or term, an alternate recipient
shall then be awarded the scholarship
subject to the terms as herein set forth.
If in the opinion of the scholarship
selection committee no student meets the
criteria herein established, then no
scholarship will be awarded for that year
and is to be made available for the
following or later years. |

Henry Seaborg Memorial Scholarship

Amount: The amount of the grant shall
be determined by the interest the original
amount can accrue in a one year period.
The original amount of $1,000 is to remain
untouched so that this fund will be
permanent and self-perpetuating and remain
in effect for as long as possible and/or
practical.
Eligibility: In order to be eligible,
the recipient shall continue his/her
education in a technically-related field
of study. The Board of Trustees shall
select an eligible recipient who will have
demonstrated qualities of good character
and citizenship. In event that there is no
eligible candidate in a given year, more
than one recipient may be given a grant in
the following year or years. The grant
shall be deposited by the
Secretary-Treasurer of the Board at the
school the recipient plans to attend. The
student shall have met all entrance
requirements and have been accepted at the
school. |

Phelps Prize

$500.00
Eligibility:
The prize or prizes to be awarded on the
basis of personal improvement during the
high school course, industry, reliability,
scholarship, moral character and the
promise of becoming a useful citizen or
citizens. The selection of the recipients
of this award is to be made by the
committee consisting of the Superintendent
of Schools and two citizens of the
community, one of whom shall be a man and
the other a woman, said citizens to be
selected by the Board of Education each
year. The committee is to meet and make
its selection on or before the first day
of June of each year, and if in any year
it may be deemed advisable to this
committee that no award be made for such
year, then the income of said fund for
such year shall be added to the principal
of this fund. |

Phillips Memorial Scholarship

university of his/her choice to be used to
help defray expenses.
Eligibility: The recipient must be a
graduating senior from Ishpeming High

average. The recipient must have
participated in high school athletics at
Ishpeming High School. (Cheerleading is

baccalaureate science related field at the

Helen A. Bentley Memorial
Music Scholarship

Amount: To be a minimum of $750
annually to the same student for four
years (offered next in 2009). The successful candidate must
present valid enrollment forms/receipts
from the school or camp they plan to
attend to the superintendent’s office
before receiving their scholarship check.
Applicant may be either a graduating
senior or another student presently
attending Ishpeming High School. The
applicant must be enrolled in a music
program/class. Final selection will be
weighted in favor of the graduating
senior.
Students must be planning to attend a
non-profit school or camp pursuing
advanced music education.
Candidates will be judged on musical
background and interests, academic
standing, and citizenship. Candidates
must be pursuing any of the four following
areas:
- Voice training/development
- Choral music
- Piano accompanist
- Music directorship
A committee made up of the high school
principal, guidance counselor, and two
faculty members of the music department
will choose the recipient of this award.

Scholarship

expected to be $500. The Board of
Trustees of the Ishpeming High School
Alumni Association may alter the amount of
the award when they consider such action
appropriate

addition to completing the scholarship
application, applicants must also include
an official high school transcript and a

Kiwanis Scholarship

names of IHS Key Club seniors supported by

Information is then provided to a Pioneer

Counselor, and the Ishpeming High School
Principal. The three
persons noted above will meet and
determine the recipient of the Pioneer
Kiwanis Scholarship. |
