Flu Shots

Flu season is approaching quickly. Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. People who get the flu may have fever, body aches, congestion, and cough, and flu symptoms can last for several days.  Influenza may cause mild to severe illness and even death. The very young, the elderly, and those with chronic diseases are most at risk for serious complications from the flu.  The best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu vaccine each year.  When more people are vaccinated, less flu circulates in the community. So getting your family vaccinated protects not only your family, but helps to protect your friends and neighbors.

The Hematite Health Clinic will be offering influenza vaccinations the entire school year. In order for your child to get an influenza vaccine please turn in the following:

  1. A parental consent form for the HHC.  Click here for Parental Consent Form. If you have already filled this out, it does not need to be repeated.
  2. The influenza consent form.  Click here for the Influenza Consent Form. Please be sure to sign the bottom and fill out the questionnaire on the back of the form.

  Reasons for you and your family to get the flu vaccine as soon as possible include:

  • Flu is unpredictable. It is impossible to know how severe this flu season will be or when it will start.
  • Each flu season, flu causes millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older as the flu vaccine is our best defense against getting the flu.
  • While flu vaccine can vary in effectiveness from person to person, vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctor visits, missed work and school due to flu, as well as decreased flu-related hospitalizations.
  • It takes about two weeks after vaccination for protection to develop, so get vaccinated now!
